It took the people of Nkumburu 3 hours to reach the nearest market, 1,000 metres away, barely a distance of 10 minutes. The river between the village and the market was wide and deep, and no one would be able to cross, so the people had to go down stream to a bridge constructed a decade ago by the government. The people could wait for no more suffering, and soon realized they did not need the government to make them a bridge. Soon they embarked on a programme that would change the entire village population. A committee was put up to spearhead the planning for a bridge construction, with Mr. Sebastian Njagi of VFA as an adviser. They soon were able to contribute resources, time and money for the exercise. The government also came to their aid, with donation of a Caterpillar Machine from the Ministry Offices to help in the work. Today the people of Nkumburu are happy. Thanks to the ViC concept pioneered by VFA. They have now embarked on a mission to construct a village dispensary. Nothing will stop them from achieving this. Please contact our Volunteer Programmes Manager, Mr. Njagi for more on his involvement in the ViC concept..
